Organic Regulation Training; Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE)Training Online

USDA National Organic Regulations 7 CFR 205 has been updated on the Federal Register on March 19, 2023 and will be fully enforceable as of March 19, 2024. This is the biggest update in the federal organic requirements since it was first published more than 20 years ago. The main goal of these changes is to prevent and reduce organic fraud. This webinar will highlight the main impacts on operators that are involved in the organic supply chains.


Objectives

1. Identify the four essential elements of the USDA SOE to prevent organic fraud:

● Reducing the number of exempt operations

● Require the use of electronic import certificates.

● Strengthening oversight of certification activities.

● Strengthen traceability and supply chain records.

2. Describe the main impacts of the SOE at the operator´s level.

● Certifying uncertified operators of the supply chain

● New import requirements (electronic import certificates)

● Maintain records that allow traceability to last certified operation

● Develop, implement and describe in the Organic System Plan

a) how the operator evaluates suppliers in its supply chain and

b) its fraud  prevention program.

● Slight changes to the organic percentage calculation of multi-ingredient products

● Clearly identify products as organic in records and new wholesale label requirements

● Strengthening requirements for on-site inspections
